Do Certain Types of Gutters Perform Better than Others?

Find Rain Gutters That Work Best for You

Rain gutters can be considered as a level of protection to your property. This is because they cause the rainwater to flow down from your roof in an efficient way. In other words, it helps to prevent all types of damage to your home and foundation that may result from the high levels of rainfall we constantly receive.

The rain gutters are a major element to every house, so it is important to make an educated decision while planning for your gutter installation. It is important to note that the performance of different types of rain gutters are not of the same standard. We will now take a look at the features of the more popular gutter types to understand which one is most suitable for your home.

Vinyl Gutter System

The homeowners choose this type of gutter when they want to perform a self-installation. The gutters themselves are light-weight, however, the parts required for installation must be purchased from a home improvement store. If you do not have previous experience installing gutters on a home, this process will now become very confusing, time consuming, and the possibility for an increased expense if your DIY installation does not go exactly as planned. To top it off, vinyl gutters reduce the visual beauty of your home by not looking as nice and may last only five years before they become completely dry rotted.

Stainless Steel Gutters

These gutters are highly durable and may serve you for several years. For commercial buildings that require a more tough gutter system that can withstand damage, the better choice is galvanized steel. However, resilience is the major problem as it may begin to corrode after about five to ten years. Because of the difficulty for an effective installation, steel gutters are never recommended for any DIY gutter installer.

Aluminum Gutters

If you are looking for a more cost-effective option, then aluminum gutters are best for you. The rust-resistant, lightweight gutter can be handled very easily. In addition, aluminum gutters can last well over 20 to 30 years. Aluminum is also the favored option when it comes to having seamless gutters installed on your home.

The instance where aluminum gutters are not recommended are when they become exposed to salt water from homes located near the ocean. Salt water will drastically shorten the life-span of aluminum gutters, and in this case, copper gutters will be more ideal.

Copper Gutters

This type of gutter system can be quite costly. Relatively speaking, copper gutters can range from 8 to 10 times the cost of aluminum gutters. The greatest benefit, however, is that copper gutters have over double the life expectancy of aluminum and can last well over 50 years.  Copper gutters are a great choice for high-end or historical homes, and the durability is unmatched!
