Why Do I Need a Gutter System?

Here are a few reasons why:

Every single house is different in it’s own way. With that said, not all homes need a complete gutter system. Usually places that rain out of control or places that don’t rain at all don’t need gutters. But other than that, we believe it is really important to have gutters installed on your home. The general purpose of the system is to collect water that lands on the roof and direct the water away from the house so no damage is caused. We have seen so many horror stories of water and moisture penetrating walls and creating moldy, disgusting environments to live in. We have seen beautiful pavers ruined because of the water buildup. We have seen valuable landscape dismantled. All of this because there were simply no gutters in place. Always keep in mind, water build-up around the home is never good for your property.

While maintaining gutters can be a real pain in the neck, fixing broken gutters is not a major deal. Holes can be patched and plugged with durable and long-last cement. Drooping or hanging gutters can usually be secured back into place fairly easily. If part of the gutters are damaged, a particular section can be replaced. Home gutters are most commonly made from vinyl, steel, aluminum or copper. The vinyl material is light and strong, but it can become fragile in very cold weather making it more prone to damage from ice or hail. Living in South Florida, that is definitely not a big concern for us. Vinyl gutters may last 10 years or more depending on the thickness and quality of the material. Steel is known to be extremely heavy duty and can carry a lot of weight but it rusts easily where the finish wears off. Depending on the coating used on the metal and other environmental variables, steel gutters may last from 10 to 40 years. Aluminum does not rust, but it dents and dings easily compared to the other material options. Aluminum gutters may last 20 to 25 years on average. Copper gutters are stunning and make a design statement besides their actual purpose. The con of copper is it can be very expensive.
